Fraternities and sororities conduct recruitment and intake events, activities, and informational sessions at various times during the year. Intake is the term NPHC organizations and most MGC organizations use to bring new members into an organization. In 1990, all 9 NPHC groups prohibited "pledging" and began a process called 'intake'.
The recruitment process is either council or chapter coordinated, depending on which organization you are interested in joining. However, no freshman may be in the new member process until Winter Quarter, or enter a fraternity or sorority house during the first two weeks of the academic year. Transfer, sophomore, junior, or senior students may join a fraternal organization during Fall Quarter.
