Garrett J. McAlister (he/him) is the Assistant Director of Prevention & Masculine Engagement at CARE. In this role, he oversees the implementation of prevention education programming on topics related to consent, healthy relationships, supporting survivors, and masculinities, and coordinates the Â鶹´«Ã½ Bystander Intervention program. He is also the advisor of MARS (Masculinity, Allyship, Reflection, Solidarity).

Prior to working at CARE, Garrett worked at Michigan State University, facilitating Title IX leadership and compliance trainings for men’s athletics, fraternity and sorority life, men/male/masculine-identified individuals, and the broader university community. He has also earned a Master of Science in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Illinois.

Garrett is especially passionate about moving the conversation forward regarding attitudes, beliefs, and values linked directly to masculinity. He works to challenge restrictive masculinity due to the way it contributes to domestic and sexual violence but also limits opportunities for people to show up authentically as themselves. Outside of work, Garrett spends his time playing video games, watching anime, traveling to new places, rooting for his favorite sports teams, and spending time with his family.
