Peer Adviser FAQs

What does it mean if I am, or plan to be, away from campus during any term during 2025? Can I still apply to be a PA?

Winter 2025: All components of the application and interview process are in-person. Being away from campus during the Winter 2025 quarter does not automatically disqualify you from participating in the interview and selection process. Applicants unable to attend an info session and, if offered, an interview in-person should contact our office at transition@northwestern.edu. Students who are not enrolled in Â鶹´«Ã½ during winter are not eligible to apply.

Spring 2025: All training during the spring quarter is in-person. Those planning to be away from campus for Spring 2025 are not eligible to apply.

Summer 2025: Summer responsibilities are virtual.

Fall 2025: Peer Advisers are required to be on-campus during the dates listed on the Important Dates page. If you are planning to study abroad or participate in a program away from campus for fall 2025, you are not eligible to apply.

I've reviewed the important dates and see I have a conflict. Should I still apply?

All training dates listed are required. These trainings are vital because they serve as building blocks to the PA position. In addition, much of learning occurs through conversation and activities with other PAs. If you are aware of any conflicts please contact OSTE at transition@northwestern.edu to determine if this will inhibit you from applying.

There's a lot of time in between the deadline to submit an application and the notification of selection! Why is it set up that way?

We receive hundreds of Peer Adviser applications each year. Our Wildcat Welcome Board of Directors (10 student staff) and OSTE professional staff read through each application and facilitate lots of interviews in January and February. We want to be really intentional about who is selected to mentor and support new students!

Additionally, we allow students to simultaneously apply for other opportunities on campus (like Resident Advisors, Family Ambassadors, and study abroad), and we work really hard to make sure the decision timelines for those opportunities are aligned.

I have a violation; What does this mean for my application?

Our application asks that if you have an academic or conduct violation that you disclose that situation.

If you are concerned about whether your violation will affect your standing, please contact OSTE at transition@northwestern.edu before submitting your Peer Adviser application.

I will be inter-school transferring during the application and interview process. What does this mean for me?

We will consider the school you are currently enrolled in as of January 5, 2025. However, if you are planning on completing the inter-school transfer process before Wildcat Welcome 2025, you will be asked to indicate this in your application. In some situations, we may contact an applicant who is an inter-school transfer to clarify their situation. If you have more specific questions regarding this topic please contact OSTE at transition@northwestern.edu

I'm also thinking of applying for study abroad and/or a summer internship. How will this impact my PA application?

If you are selected to study abroad in the Spring or Fall 2025 quarters, you cannot be a Peer Adviser. We ask that applicants disclose on their application if they are intending to apply for study abroad, as we allow students to apply for both opportunities. However, if offered both, they can only accept one.

Applicants are welcome to accept a Summer study abroad program or internship as long as they can return to campus by September 3 for Peer Adviser Camp.
