2020-2021 Academic Year

  • Jessica Fetridge served on the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Group for IFSA's National Advisory Council for the 2019-2020 academic year. This is part of her 3-year term on the IFSA National Advisory Council Executive Committee ending in July 2020. 
  • Sara McGuinn and Lauren Worth served as mentors in the International Educators of Illinois (IEI) Mentorship Program.
  • Catrina DeBord was elected as the Chair, NAFSA Region V for 2020. This is part of a multi-year chair stream term ending in December 2021.
  • Catrina DeBord led the NAFSA Region V team as they pivoted from an in-person to a virtual event for the 2020 Conference which was hosted October 21-23, 2020.

January

  • Karey Fuhs was appointed for a 2-year term to the Internationalizing Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum (ITLC) Network Subcommittee, a leadership position within the NAFSA Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship Knowledge Community.
  • Jessica Fetridge began serving as a Coach for the Region V Cohort in NAFSA Academy Class 17. Her role as Coach will run through December 2020.

February

  • Sara McGuinn published the review "Thinking Bigger in International Education" in Issue No. 10 of the .

March

  • Sara McGuinn was elected to the Chair Stream of International Educators of Illinois (IEI), a 3-year leadership commitment. She begins her term as Chair Elect at the IEI Annual Conference in Bloomington, IL.

June

  • Whitney Bennett, Tyler Morkin (of Central Michigan University), and Helen Halt (formerly of Michigan Technological University) presented Advocate with Data: A Data Primer for the International Education Office for the 2020 NAFSA eConnection Program.

September

  • Various GLO staff reviewed session proposals for the NAFSA 2021 Annual Conference to be held in Orlando, FL: Lauren Worth (Education Abroad Knowledge Community), Karey Fuhs (Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship Knowledge Community)

2019-2020 Academic Year

  • Jessica Fetridge served on the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Group for IFSA's National Advisory Council for the 2019-2020 academic year. This is part of her 3-year term on the IFSA National Advisory Council Executive Committee ending in 2020. 
  • Karey Fuhs served as a member of the Forum on Education Abroad Curriculum Award Selection Committee

January

  • Catrina DeBord was elected as Chair-Elect for NAFSA Region V and she will serve a three-year term as part of the chair stream.
  • Whitney Bennett served as a poster reviewer for the NAFSA 2019 Annual Conference’s "Orientation, Transition, and Retention Programs as an Integral Support Service" poster fair.

March

  • The following staff members presented at the Diversity Abroad Annual Conference in Boston:
    • Krista Buda Bethel presented Getting to the Gate: Increasing Autonomy by Leveraging Hidden Strengths.
    • Karey Fuhs presented Supporting Faculty: Fostering Brave Spaces for Students and Programs Abroad and facilitated a Faculty Development Task Force Town Hall, which was a continuation of her on the same.
  • The following staff members presented at the International Educators of Illinois (IEI) Annual Conference at Wheaton College:
    • Sara McGuinn facilitated a Study Abroad 101 Workshop and an Advising Methods in Education Abroad Workshop.
    • Whitney Bennett and Micki Burton of the Program of Global Health Studies presented Where is My Mind: Organizing Your World with Project Management Systems.
    • Stephanie Kaczynski and Annie Reagan of Kellogg Global Programs presented The Struggle is Real: Realities of On-Campus Study Abroad Marketing and Tips for Success.

April

  • Sara McGuinn was elected External Communications Coordinator for the International Educators of Illinois for a two-year term.

May

  • Lauren Worth presented Liaising Around: Creating Mutually Beneficial Partnerships on Campus at the "Creating Communities that Support Global Learning On and Off Campus" poster fair at the NAFSA 2019 Annual Conference in Washington D.C.

July

  • Jessica Fetridge was selected as a Coach for the Region V NAFSA Academy Class 17 for an 18-month term.
  • Jessica Fetridge presented Making Individualized Learning Inclusive and Excellent! with Dr. David Wick, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, at the IFSA Annual Conference in Indianapolis.
  • Stephanie Kaczynski and Antonia Lortis of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities presented Marketing to Gen Z at the Big Ten Academic Alliance International Marketing & Communication Workshop in Rosemont, IL.

September

  • Various GLO staff reviewed session proposals for the NAFSA 2020 Annual Conference to be held in St. Louis, Missouri: Catrina DeBord (International Education Leadership), Lauren Worth and Whitney Bennett (Education Abroad Knowledge Community), Karey Fuhs (Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship Knowledge Community)

November

  • The following staff members presented at the NAFSA Region V Annual Conference in Milwaukee:
    • Jessica Fetridge presented An Exercise in Compromise: Pre-Departure Orientation from Three Perspectives with Sandy Tupper, Michigan State University and Sarah Pauling, University of Michigan.
    • Lauren Worth presented "Where Do I Start?": Relationship-Building and Advising in Service of STEM Students Abroad with Sarah Pauling, University of Michigan.
    • Catrina DeBord presented "Leadership within International Education" in collaboration with NAFSA Leaders.

December

  • Whitney Bennett became a Co-Chair for NAFSA's Technology Member Interest Group for a two-year term.

2018-2019 Academic Year

  • The following staff members served on Diversity Abroad's Diversity in Global Education Task Forces for the 2018-2019 academic year:

    • Catrina DeBord facilitated a Study Abroad 101 Workshop.
    • Sara McGuinn facilitated an Advising Methods in Education Abroad Workshop and gave presentations on the IEI Mentorship Program and Increasing Diverse Participation in Study Abroad.
  • Catrina DeBord and Janka Pieper of Â鶹´«Ã½'s International Relations office published an article in the spring 2018 edition of IIE Networker titled
