What is civic love?
Activist Grace Lee Boggs asks us to “bring to our communities the limitless capacity to love, serve, and create for and with each other.” "Civic love is one’s love for society, expressed through a commitment to the common good. It is a belief in the idea that we’re all better off, when we are all better off. We manifest this through all kinds of actions - volunteering, marching, speaking against systemic injustice, making reparations - but love itself is the emotional heart of the work" ().
We hope you will…
- be inspired by local leaders pursuing a more equitable world
- meet new people who share your values around community engagement
- explore connections between spirituality and social justice
- make space to focus on being present to yourself and slow down
- strengthen your connection to the places of Evanston/Chicago
- delve into meaningful themes and questions that can shape your life
